How do I apologise without making a speech?

Name what you did, name the effect you understand, and name what you will do differently. Leave out the defence paragraph. An apology that explains itself for ten lines is usually a negotiation.

What you can do

Use three sentences. 'I interrupted you in front of them. That embarrassed you. Next time I will wait until we are alone.' Then stop talking. If they need space, the apology still counts.

What not to do

Do not begin with 'if you felt'. Do not list your stress as a receipt. Do not demand forgiveness before the sentence has landed.

Try this today

Write the three sentences. Delete every line that starts with a reason. Send or say what remains.

Look at it from their side

They may want the behaviour changed more than they want your feelings described. A short apology that alters tomorrow is easier to trust than a moving speech.
